End of 2016 data release

Each year the PSMSL begins anew the task of gathering as much data as possible collected in the previous year from tide gauges installed across the world. At the end of the year we publish a static release of our data that will remain unchanged on our website.

Today marks the release of our end of 2016 dataset, which is our 10 January 2017 release. In the forthcoming weeks we will update our trends and anomalies pages using this dataset. For information on how to cite this version of our dataset, see our referencing recommendation.

This year we have updated about 800 stations. Most of the updates involved adding data collected during 2015, although some older data has also been included. Some major updates include:

• A complete update of the data series for the stations in Chile provided by SHOA
• A complete update of the stations provided by the Cuban National Tidal Service, including 4 new sites
• Adding 10 stations in the south of England provided by the Channel Coastal Observatory
• Updating Southend from the Port of London Authority which previously ended in 1983
• Adding 14 American stations from NOAA, including 6 in Alaska, following a review of our data holdings
• Adding 9 stations from New South Wales, Australia, supplied by NSW Public Works
