Update of Korean data

15 May 2026

We have been notified by our supplier from the Republic of Korea, KHOA (Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Agency), that previously submitted monthly means were based on data only quality controlled at a near real time level. They have supplied us with a new dataset of fully quality controlled data following principles that ensure the long-term stability of the vertical reference frame of each series.

Each station has been validated by comparison with other nearby sites. Regime shift detection was used to identify the timing and magnitude of shifts, which was verified by checking the station history of relocation, benchmark changes, and details of instrumentation.

We have updated each of our South Korean records using these new datasets. Many thanks to our colleagues at KHOA for bringing this to our attention.
